Istanbul: The Turkish consumer confidence index experienced a slight decline in January, reversing the upward trend seen in December, as indicated by data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) released on Thursday. The index fell by 0.4% compared to the previous month, settling at a level of 81.

According to Anadolu Agency, the sub-index measuring household financial situation expectations for the next 12 months witnessed a decrease of 1.7%. Additionally, there was a 3.1% reduction in the index related to spending on durable goods for the same timeframe.

Conversely, the data revealed a 1.7% improvement in the index reflecting households' current financial situation in January. There was also a 3% increase in expectations concerning the general economic situation over the next year.

The consumer confidence index serves as a crucial measure of the economy's performance, offering insights into public perceptions regarding financial health, the broader economic landscape, and trends in spending and saving behaviors.
