Turkish Cypriot President Welcomes UN Envoy for Cyprus Talks

Beirut: Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus / ANKARA: Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Tufan Erhurman on Monday received UN envoy on Cyprus Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar. They held an hour-long meeting at the TRNC Presidency.

According to Anadolu Agency, Cuellar spoke to reporters following the meeting, announcing that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is expected to arrive in Cyprus on Tuesday afternoon. During his visit, Guterres plans to meet separately with Erhurman and Greek Cypriot Administration leader Nikos Christodoulides. The meetings will culminate in a joint dinner with both leaders in the evening.

Cuellar emphasized that the visit signifies the secretary-general's dedication to addressing the Cyprus issue, highlighting Guterres's active engagement over his ten years in office. The envoy noted that the primary goal of Guterres's visit is to advance the process toward potential negotiations.
