Mersin: Turkish defense firm Baibars has unveiled its latest investment in Mersin, opening a new civil unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) production plant to enhance its domestic and international production capabilities.

According to Anadolu Agency, Baibars, established in 2015, has emerged as a leading company in the integration, development, and production of rotary wing UAVs, primarily catering to the needs of farmers. Since its inception, the firm has exported its products to nine countries and has received the highest-ever foreign direct investment (FDI) in its sector from Japan, strengthening Trkiye-Japan relations.

The company's UAVs have accumulated over 70,000 operational flight hours, demonstrating its prominence in the field with its agricultural, fire response, and supply/cargo aerial vehicles. The new production plant has increased Baibars' monthly UAV production capacity to 100 units, a move designed to meet rising demand and the firm's growth potential.

In addition to UAVs, the Mersin plant will produce energy and propulsion systems, expanding its offerings to include agricultural, fire intervention, and supply/cargo UAVs.

Caglayan Erguvan, CEO of Baibars, emphasized the firm's focus on export-oriented sustainable growth, noting that Turkish UAVs have achieved a global reputation. Maintaining this popularity, he said, is Baibars' top priority. "We are a young and determined team with experience in rotary wing UAVs," Erguvan stated, highlighting that 60% of the components in Baibars' autonomous UAVs are produced domestically in Trkiye. This domestic production, he noted, enhances the competitiveness of farmers by reducing input costs and preventing crop losses.

Erguvan also mentioned 'Cesur,' a fire response drone that supports firefighting efforts in Trkiye and Europe, demonstrating the firm's commitment to innovative solutions in UAV technology.
