Ankara: Trkiye's National Defense Ministry on Thursday expressed hope that Iran and the United States will engage "constructively" to transform the ongoing temporary ceasefire into a lasting peace and continue negotiations for stability in the region.
According to Anadolu Agency, Rear Adm. Zeki Akturk, a spokesman for the ministry, emphasized the necessity for both nations to act prudently in ensuring the ceasefire's permanence. He assured that Trkiye will extend all necessary support to promote stability and peace in the region.
Akturk further highlighted the international community's obligation to address Israel's continued assaults on Lebanon and the escalating humanitarian crisis resulting from the Israeli genocide in Gaza. He underscored the need for global responsibility amid the ongoing negotiation processes.
During the SAHA 2026 defense fair in Istanbul, National Defense Minister Yasar Guler engaged in discussions with defense officials from various countries, including Somalia, Kosovo, Kenya, Kuwait, Mauritania, Sudan, and Estonia. Guler also formalized a military financial cooperation agreement with Kosovo and a defense cooperation agreement with Kenya.
In addition, senior Turkish military commanders held meetings with foreign representatives during the fair. Notably, Air Force Commander Gen. Ziya Cemal Kadioglu is scheduled to visit Portugal from May 11-14, while Naval Forces Commander Adm. Kadir Yildiz participates in the Conference of Chiefs of European Navies (CHENS) 2026 meeting in Madrid, which concludes on Friday.
