Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized that no terrorist group in Syria should pose a threat to Trkiye or any other regional country, especially amidst the ongoing situation in Syria.

According to Anadolu Agency, Fidan, during a joint press conference with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani in Ankara, stated that the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which operates under the pretense of fighting ISIS (Daesh), must abandon its divisive agenda. Fidan highlighted that the SDF is pursuing a particular agenda and should not pretend to be prudent. He stressed the need for a solution that would benefit both parties and uphold Syria's unity and integrity.

Fidan called on the international community to reconsider its approach to combating ISIS, noting that the Syrian government is willing to conduct coordinated operations against the terrorist group. He urged for collective efforts to support Syria in enhancing its necessary capabilities and capacity to act on this commitment. Trkiye, he affirmed, will continue to aid in the development of the Syrian government's capabilities to combat ISIS.

The SDF, mainly comprised of the YPG, is considered the Syrian wing of the PKK, identified as a terrorist organization. On March 10, the Syrian presidency announced an agreement to integrate the SDF into state institutions, reinforcing the country's territorial integrity and opposing any separatist intentions. However, the SDF has breached this agreement on multiple occasions.
