Turkish Foreign Minister Discusses Gaza Ceasefire Efforts with Italian Counterpart

Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan engaged in a phone conversation with his Italian counterpart, Antonio Tajani, focusing on the situation in Gaza, as reported by Turkish diplomatic sources. The dialogue centered around initiatives to establish a ceasefire and peace within the Palestinian enclave, though specific details were not disclosed.

According to Anadolu Agency, Tajani highlighted the conversation in a statement, expressing Italy's support for Trkiye's and other regional partners' mediation efforts to persuade Hamas to accept a peace plan. "It is time to end the hostilities, ensure humanitarian assistance to the civilian population, and promote a lasting political solution that provides for the establishment of the Palestinian state," Tajani shared on X, a US-based social media platform.

Both Italy and Trkiye are monitoring the Global Sumud Flotilla, which is en route to Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid and attempt to break the ongoing blockade. The primary focus remains on preventing any escalation of the conflict. This call followed the recent unveiling of a 20-point plan by US President Donald Trump, alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, aimed at terminating Israel's war on Gaza and establishing a temporary administration to aid in the territory's reconstruction.
