Singapore: Trkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is set to embark on an official visit to Singapore, where he is scheduled to meet with several key officials and address significant topics in international relations. According to Anadolu Agency, Fidan’s agenda includes a meeting with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, as well as discussions with his Singaporean counterpart Vivian Balakrishnan and Coordinating Minister for National Security K. Shanmugam, who also serves as the home affairs minister.
During his visit, Fidan will also participate in the prestigious IISS Raffles Lecture, organized by the International Institute for Strategic Studies. Here, he is expected to present Trkiye’s foreign-policy vision amidst the current volatile global security environment. The visit underscores the importance of Trkiye-Singapore relations, focusing on enhancing the bilateral trade volume and reinforcing mutual investments based on the Free Trade Agreement established in 2015.
Fidan’s discussions are anticipated to highlight the necessity of collaboration in military and defense sectors, especially in light of recent regional developments. He aims to explore potential steps to deepen defense industry cooperation with Singapore. Additionally, Fidan plans to emphasize the critical role of both nations in connectivity and energy security, given their strategic positions on key maritime and trade routes.
The Turkish foreign minister will assess opportunities for collaboration in emerging sectors such as renewable energy, electric vehicles, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, digitalization, financial technologies, and the halal food industry. Furthermore, Fidan is expected to advocate for multilateral cooperation on international platforms, including the UN, G20, and ASEAN, and express Trkiye’s intention to elevate its ASEAN relations from a Sectoral Dialogue Partner to a Dialogue Partnership.
Fidan will also engage in discussions on pressing international issues, including the Russia-Ukraine War, Palestine, Iran, the Strait of Hormuz, Syria, the South China Sea, and other current regional and global developments. The diplomatic visit underscores the strengthening ties between Singapore and Trkiye, which have been marked by a strategic partnership since 2014, a trade volume reaching $1.07 billion in 2025, and significant investments, including Singapore’s $11 billion in Trkiye since 2002.
