Damascus: Trkiye's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is set to visit Syria on Sunday, as reported by Turkish Foreign Ministry sources. The visit aims to facilitate discussions focusing on bilateral relations and regional developments between the two neighboring nations.

According to Anadolu Agency, the discussions will include evaluations of bilateral projects dedicated to Syria's reconstruction and efforts aimed at bolstering capacity-building activities within the country. Another key agenda is to assess the progress made in the integration of northeastern Syria into the central administration, aligned with the agreements dated January 17, 2025, and January 29, 2026.

Additionally, the talks will address threats to Syria's security and the impact of the ongoing Middle Eastern conflict. The meetings will provide an opportunity to exchange views on broader regional matters, particularly the situation in Lebanon. A significant part of the visit will be a trilateral meeting involving Fidan, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who is also visiting Syria, and Syria's President Ahmad al-Sharaa.

The visit marks more than a year since the initiation of a new era in Syrian-Turkish relations, which began on December 8, 2024. During this period, the ties between Trkiye and Syria have gained momentum across various sectors. Both countries have established cooperative efforts serving their shared agenda at bilateral, regional, and international levels.

Trkiye remains committed to supporting initiatives aimed at healing the aftermath of Syria's nearly 14-year-long civil war. These efforts are intended to explore new cooperation areas that contribute to Syria's lasting stability and security, benefiting both nations. Fidan's previous visit to Syria occurred last December, accompanied by National Defense Minister Yasar Guler and Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin.
