Amman: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is set to participate in a pivotal ministerial meeting on Jerusalem in Amman, Jordan's capital, this Wednesday. The discussion will center on Jerusalem's status, the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, and efforts to promote a two-state solution, as reported by sources from the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
According to Anadolu Agency, the meeting will be hosted by Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi. It will see the attendance of senior officials from a myriad of countries, including Trkiye, Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Indonesia, Bahrain, Iraq, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Somalia, and Malaysia. Additionally, the secretary-general of the Arab League is expected to be present.
The agenda for the meeting includes the preservation of the historical and legal status of Jerusalem's holy sites, developments in occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank, actions by Israel considered contrary to international law, the Gaza ceasefire process, recent developments concerning the Palestinian issue, and international efforts to implement a two-state solution.
Fidan is anticipated to emphasize the religious, historical, and cultural significance of Jerusalem for Muslims, highlighting the shared responsibility of the international community in preserving the city's historical and legal status. He is also expected to express concern over Israeli actions aimed at altering the status of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and other provocations, as well as violations against Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
The Turkish foreign minister is set to reiterate that relocating embassies to Jerusalem violates international law and relevant UN resolutions, undermining the city's internationally recognized status and harming prospects for a two-state solution. He will also likely express deep concern over policies aimed at changing the demographic composition of East Jerusalem, including forced displacement and home demolitions, while warning of increasing annexation policies in the West Bank.
Furthermore, Fidan is expected to call for concrete international action against Israel's violations of international law and stress the importance of ending impunity for such acts. On the subject of Gaza, he is anticipated to highlight Trkiye's constructive contributions to the Gaza Peace Plan and express hope for positive outcomes for both the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
