Istanbul: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has raised concerns that ‘unlawful strikes’ against Iran are pushing the region to the brink of a wider conflict, exacerbated by “relentless Israeli escalation.” Fidan made these remarks at the second day of the International Strategic Communication Summit (STRATCOM) 2026 held in Istanbul.

According to Anadolu Agency, Fidan emphasized the significant risks posed by Iranian actions affecting Gulf nations and criticized what he described as Israel’s war of choice. He highlighted the broader global implications, stating that the conflict, orchestrated for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s political survival, is causing widespread geopolitical and economic complications. Fidan underscored the need for de-escalation and diplomacy as the only viable path forward.

Fidan also expressed strong opposition to Israel’s recent actions in Lebanon, calling for high-level dialogue to end the conflict swiftly. He warned of enduring regional scars and emphasized the importance of maintaining open channels for negotiation to prevent further destruction and economic damage.

The minister pointed to a systemic disruption in the international system, questioning its authority and credibility in addressing crises. He stressed the need for common sense and diplomatic efforts to tackle these challenges, warning against the weaponization of narratives that obscure the truth, particularly in the context of Israel’s actions in Gaza.

Fidan concluded by calling for institutional reform and rejecting the normalization of violence and instability. He highlighted the emergence of a new wave of intra-regional solidarity and advocated for regional ownership to break the cycle of conflict.
