Tripoli:Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MIT) chief Ibrahim Kalin met with Libyan Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibeh to discuss efforts aimed at unifying Libya's rival eastern and western administrations and military forces.
According to Anadolu Agency, the discussions were centered on fostering peace, advancing political and military reconciliation, and unifying Libya's divided institutions while maintaining its territorial integrity. Kalin emphasized Turkey's readiness to aid in bridging divisions and urged all parties to focus on the nation's future and national unity.
The meeting also covered strengthening bilateral cooperation in various sectors. Dbeibeh expressed gratitude for Turkey's support in stabilizing Libya and reiterated his government's commitment to working with Ankara to maintain the country's territorial integrity.
The talks coincided with Libya's House of Representatives approving a maritime jurisdiction agreement with Turkey, which had been previously rejected. Kalin expressed appreciation to Dbeibeh, House of Representatives Speaker Saleh Abdunnabi, and Libyan National Army Deputy Commander-in-Chief Saddam Haftar for their roles in endorsing the agreement. This maritime delimitation agreement, signed in November 2019, establishes the maritime boundaries between Turkey and Libya in the Mediterranean Sea.
