Ankara: Trkiye's National Defense Ministry spokesperson announced Thursday that efforts on the S-400 Long-Range Regional Air and Missile Defense Systems are progressing on multiple fronts. During the ministry's weekly press briefing at Havelsan headquarters, spokesperson Zeki Akturk highlighted ongoing work, emphasizing, "It will be shared with the public when there are concrete developments."
According to Anadolu Agency, Akturk did not specify the current status or any timeline for future announcements regarding the S-400 program. He also noted the Turkish Armed Forces' contributions to regional and global peace through collaborations with allied nations, training, advisory activities, and participation in multinational missions.
Akturk condemned Israeli actions against civilians in Lebanon and Palestine, emphasizing that such acts obstruct long-term peace and stability while undermining nearly completed negotiations. He urged a constructive approach to conclude negotiations, stating it would benefit regional and global peace and prosperity.
Trkiye is also working to strengthen military cooperation with Syria, including restructuring the Syrian Armed Forces. A delegation led by Turkish Naval Forces Commander Admiral Kadir Yildiz visited Syria's Latakia aboard Turkish naval vessels, marking their first entry into the port in 18 years. The visit included talks with the Syrian Navy commander and inspections at the Latakia Military Port, with aims to expand maritime cooperation and enhance the Syrian Navy's capabilities.
On defense relations with Egypt, Akturk noted that recent high-level visits have boosted military cooperation. These efforts include joint air exercises in Egypt and Trkiye, which improved interoperability and operational capabilities. Additionally, Turkish National Defense Minister Yasar Guler and his Egyptian counterpart signed a Letter of Intent on Defense Cooperation, underscoring their commitment to deepening defense ties and contributing to regional stability.
