Pristina: The Turkish Operational Reserve Force (ORF) has successfully completed its deployment to Kosovo as a part of the NATO-led Kosovo Force (KFOR) peacekeeping mission, officials announced Sunday. The deployment marks a significant step in ongoing efforts to ensure security and stability in the region.
According to Anadolu Agency, statements shared via KFOR's social media accounts confirmed that the Turkish unit has arrived in Kosovo for a temporary rotation. This deployment is part of a rotation plan conducted under the oversight of NATO's Joint Force Command based in Naples, Italy.
The Turkish unit has assumed responsibilities from the Multinational ORF Battalion. The Turkish ORF Battalion is set to conduct a series of activities alongside other KFOR units, positioning itself to respond effectively to any developments in the security situation. KFOR highlighted that these reinforcements are crucial in enhancing its operational flexibility and readiness in facing evolving security challenges.
KFOR has been active in Kosovo since June 12, 1999, operating under a United Nations Security Council mandate with the mission of ensuring peace and stability. The force currently comprises over 4,500 personnel drawn from 33 NATO and non-NATO countries. Turkish troops have been part of this mission since its inception, underscoring Trkiye's long-standing commitment to the region.
In a related development, Trkiye is scheduled to assume command of KFOR for a one-year term, starting October 3, further strengthening its role in maintaining security in Kosovo.
