Ankara: Turkish parliament speaker Numan Kurtulmus condemned Israel's attack on the Freedom Flotilla Coalition in international waters on Wednesday, revealing that three Turkish parliament members were detained by Israeli forces while aboard one of the ships.

According to Anadolu Agency, Kurtulmus addressed the incident during the screening of the documentary "From Ground Zero: Beyond the Visible in Gaza" at the Turkish parliament. He warned that any harm to the detained parliament members would lead to accountability before the Turkish and international public opinion.

Kurtulmus referred to the situation in Gaza as "the greatest genocide of modern times," noting that the death toll in Gaza ranges between 70,000 and 100,000, with over 140,000 people suffering permanent injuries. He criticized the destruction of schools, mosques, churches, and other livable spaces, and accused Israel of using hunger as a weapon against the people of Gaza.

The speaker likened Israeli actions to those of Hitler, suggesting that Israeli leaders, including Netanyahu, would bear the responsibility for these alleged crimes indefinitely. He also highlighted the detention of activists from over 40 countries in inhumane conditions during the attack on the Global Sumud Flotilla.

Kurtulmus pointed out that Turkey has secured the release of its citizens and others and emphasized that Turkey is participating in South Africa's genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice. He expressed hope that Israeli officials would eventually be tried at the International Criminal Court, comparing them to historical figures like Karadzic and Milosevic.

The speaker praised the resilience of the Palestinian people and the international activists aboard the flotilla, stating that their actions signify growing global awareness and conscience. He urged Israel to "come to its senses" and demanded the immediate release of the detained Turkish parliament members.
