Turkish Parliament Speaker Emphasizes Ending Israeli Aggression as Key to Global Peace

Ankara: Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus stated on Monday that ending the Israeli government's actions is crucial not only for the peace of Palestinians but also for securing global peace. Speaking at the NATO Parliamentary Summit in Istanbul, Kurtulmus emphasized that a sustainable global peace is unattainable without resolving the Middle Eastern conflict, which hinges on achieving peace for Palestinians.

According to Anadolu Agency, Kurtulmus expressed Trkiye's steadfast support for an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, advocating for a two-state solution as the only viable path forward. He urged NATO members and the international community to back ongoing peace efforts in the region.

Kurtulmus also discussed a recent memorandum of understanding between Iran and the US, highlighting the negotiations in Switzerland as a beacon of hope for a 'lasting and just peace,' beyond temporary ceasefire agreements. He pointed to Ankara's previous mediation efforts, such as the Black Sea Grain Initiative and prisoner exchanges between Ukraine and Russia, as examples of Trkiye's commitment to peace.

On the topic of defense cooperation, Kurtulmus noted Trkiye's advancements in the defense industry and its readiness to share capabilities with allies. He reaffirmed Trkiye's dedication to NATO's defense spending target and criticized the defense industry embargoes imposed by some allies as counterproductive to alliance unity.

He concluded by stating that both the world and NATO are at a 'historic crossroads,' calling for collaboration to establish a 'new, just, and equitable world order.'
