Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi engaged in a dialogue addressing bilateral relations and pressing regional and global issues during a phone call on Wednesday. Erdogan emphasized Turkey's commitment to enhancing relations with Japan across various sectors, including the defense industry, investment, and trade, as articulated by Turkey's Communications Directorate.

According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan highlighted the necessity of negotiations as the sole means to resolve the conflict between Iran and the United States, expressing Turkey's support for diplomatic initiatives aimed at securing lasting peace and stability. Additionally, Erdogan extended his condolences to Prime Minister Takaichi regarding the recent earthquake in Kumamoto, southwestern Japan.

Prime Minister Takaichi praised Turkey's active role in the Middle East. She remarked on social media platform X, acknowledging Erdogan's significant influence in the region. On the subject of the ongoing US-Iran conflict, Takaichi expressed appreciation for Turkey's dedication to mediating efforts and reiterated Japan's commitment to collaborating with Turkey and the international community to advance diplomatic resolutions persistently.

Takaichi also stressed the importance of maintaining free and safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz without incurring additional costs. She conveyed her aspiration to further enhance bilateral cooperation in fields such as education, security, and the economy.

In response to Erdogan's condolences, Takaichi expressed gratitude and affirmed Tokyo's intention to continue close collaboration with Turkey, not only in strengthening bilateral ties but also in addressing regional and international challenges.
