Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed optimism regarding the potential for peace in Ukraine following discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Erdogan indicated that further diplomatic engagements, particularly involving the United States, could advance peace efforts significantly.

According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan shared insights from his recent meeting with Putin during his return trip from the International Peace and Trust Forum in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. The Turkish leader emphasized the importance of engaging with US President Donald Trump to explore a comprehensive peace plan. "After this meeting with Putin, we hope to have the opportunity to also discuss the peace plan with US President Trump. Peace is not far off; we can see it," Erdogan stated, reflecting on the dialogue with the Russian leader.

Erdogan highlighted that his discussion with Putin centered around ongoing conflicts and the diplomatic initiatives involving Trump's administration. He acknowledged Turkey's potential contributions to peace efforts and stressed the clarity of Ankara's position among all parties involved in the Ukraine peace process. Erdogan also warned against escalating tensions in the Black Sea region, advocating for the freedom and safety of navigation.

In addition to discussions on Ukraine, Erdogan touched upon the strengthening of economic and commercial ties between Turkey and Turkmenistan. He noted that Turkish businesses have completed significant projects in Turkmenistan, emphasizing the robust bilateral relations. Erdogan underscored Turkey's support for Turkmenistan's status of permanent neutrality, achieved through a UN General Assembly decision, and reiterated Turkey's commitment to supporting Turkmenistan's peace-building vision.

Erdogan also addressed Turkey's EU accession bid, urging the European Union to adopt a strategic perspective regarding bilateral relations. On the subject of Syria, he emphasized the significance of the March 10 agreement for the country's future, advocating for the prosperity of all Syrians.

Turning to the situation in Gaza, Erdogan called on Israel to adhere to its ceasefire commitments, stressing the need for normalcy in the region. He expressed Turkey's readiness to participate in peace-related meetings, should an invitation be extended.
