Ankara: Trkiye-US ties may well gain new momentum in US President Donald Trump's second term, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Monday. Speaking in the capital Ankara following a Cabinet meeting, Erdogan noted that in a "cordial" phone call last week, he and Trump discussed many important issues, including removing all obstacles to the $100 billion trade target between the two countries.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Turkish president added that he and Trump also discussed critical developments in the region, notably those in Syria. Erdogan emphasized that despite all the difficulties in the region and the lobbies that try to hinder cooperation between the two allies, he believes that Trkiye and the US will and must manage to cooperate for the benefit of their entire geography.

Last week, Erdogan expressed his full confidence in a phone call that Ankara and Washington will advance bilateral cooperation through solidarity, a result-oriented approach, and in a sincere manner in the new era of relations.
