Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday pledged to intensify efforts to pressure the Israeli government in hopes of averting a humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.

According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan made these remarks during a joint press briefing with Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema. He commended Europe's recent steps towards recognizing the State of Palestine as 'very valuable' and expressed concern over the dire situation in Gaza, where civilians are suffering.

Erdogan emphasized the urgency of the situation, highlighting the plight of children dying of hunger and civilians being targeted while seeking food. He stated that the global community cannot remain silent in the face of such atrocities, and stressed the need for immediate humanitarian aid delivery to the region.

He further elaborated on the importance of a ceasefire and long-term peace to alleviate the isolation felt by the people of Gaza. Erdogan advocated for a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders as an effective response to what he described as Israel's oppressive policies.

Erdogan also shared his recent conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, praising Macron's decision to support the Palestinians. He noted that President Nguema shares similar views on preventing further humanitarian disaster in the region.
