Karachi: Trkiye's state-run aid agency recently concluded a weeklong search and rescue training for Pakistani scouts in Karachi, a southern port city. This initiative marks the third such training session in recent months, underscoring the ongoing efforts to bolster disaster management capabilities in the region. According to Anadolu Agency, the training was organized by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency's (TIKA) Emergency and Disaster Response Training Program (ADAMEP), in collaboration with the IHH Humanitarian Aid Foundation Disaster Management and the Sindh Scouts Association (SBSA). This joint effort aimed to enhance the preparedness and efficiency of Pakistani search and rescue teams in the face of potential natural disasters. At the closing ceremony, Trkiye's Consul General in Karachi, Cemal Sangu, commended the strong solidarity between Trkiye and Pakistan in handling recent disasters, such as the 2022 floods in Pakistan and the 2023 earthquake in Trkiye. He expressed satisfaction with the collaborative efforts between institutions from both countries to ready themselves for future challenges. Halil Ibrahim Basaran, TIKA's Karachi Coordinator, emphasized the importance of sustainability and permanence in TIKA projects. He noted that each phase of the training contributed to the progressive enhancement of the Pakistani teams' disaster response capabilities. Cihad Kaptan, IHH disaster management training coordinator, highlighted the significance of joint disaster preparedness, given the geographical vulnerability of both Pakistan and Trkiye to natural calamities. This collaboration aims to equip both nations with better tools and strategies for disaster management. Sindh Scouts Association Director, Siddique Memon, expressed gratitude towards Trkiye and its institutions for their valuable contributions to disaster response initiatives. He acknowledged the positive impact of such collaborations on local capabilities. Sarfaraz Sheikh, a volunteer from the Alkhidmat Foundation, one of Pakist an's largest relief agencies, remarked on the continuous evolution of their organization. He noted that the training sessions organized by TIKA provided them with crucial knowledge and skills to improve their disaster response efforts.
