Riyadh: Two sailors were killed in a security incident involving a Saudi oil tanker while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz earlier this week, Saudi Arabia's national shipping company, Bahri, said Wednesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, Bahri stated that its tanker, SIDR, was involved in a 'security incident' at approximately 11.40 pm local time (2040GMT) on Monday during its passage through the strategic waterway. The company confirmed that two of its seafarers, both Filipino nationals, lost their lives as a result of this incident.

Details regarding the nature or cause of the incident have not been disclosed by the company. Bahri emphasized that it remains in contact with the vessel and is working closely with relevant authorities and maritime industry stakeholders while monitoring developments.

The company reiterated that the safety and well-being of its employees remain its top priority and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining safety, security, and environmental protection standards.
