Manila: At least two people were killed and approximately 1.4 million were evacuated as Typhoon Fung-Wong made landfall in the Philippines.

According to Anadolu Agency, an official from the Office of Civil Defense, Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV, indicated that casualty reports are being validated. The typhoon, known locally as Uwan, led to the drowning of one individual and the death of another due to a structural collapse in northern Luzon, while two others sustained injuries.

The storm resulted in the destruction of nearly 100 homes, with approximately 1,000 more damaged. Nearly three million households experienced power outages, with the National Electrification Administration still conducting assessments.

Around 50 transmission lines were reported down as of Monday. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration downgraded Fung-Wong from super typhoon status on Monday.

In a separate advisory, the Malaysian Meteorological Department reported that the storm was positioned southwest of Vigan City, moving west-northwest at 30 kilometers per hour with maximum winds of 120 kilometers per hour. Warnings were issued for strong winds and rough seas over the South China Sea, as well as thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds in several areas of Malaysia.
