Abu dhabi: United Arab Emirates Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan discussed efforts to prevent a wider regional conflict with his Saudi and Iraqi counterparts Sunday amid rapidly evolving developments across the region.

According to Anadolu Agency, in a phone call with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, the two sides reviewed regional developments and efforts to contain the escalation. They also stressed the importance of coordinating positions and strengthening Gulf cooperation to safeguard the security and interests of Gulf states.

Sheikh Abdullah separately spoke with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, with the talks covering regional security, developments in Yemen, and Iraq's relations with Gulf states. The two ministers stressed the need to avoid further escalation and resolve disputes through peaceful means and negotiations. Hussein also reaffirmed Baghdad's commitment to regional stability and dialogue.

The contacts came amid heightened regional tensions following drone attacks on Saudi Arabia's East-West oil pipeline, which Riyadh said were launched from Iraqi territory. Baghdad has stated it is taking measures to prevent its territory from being used to threaten neighboring countries.
