London: The UK Parliament International Development Committee has issued a call for the government to recognize a Palestinian state. This appeal includes defining the necessary conditions and establishing a timeline for the intended actions.

According to Anadolu Agency, the committee's report addresses the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, developments in the West Bank, and the plight of displaced Palestinians. It emphasizes the importance of establishing a framework for recognizing Palestine to foster lasting peace in the region.

The report highlights significant civilian casualties and the destruction of Gaza's infrastructure following Israel's response to Hamas' attacks on October 7, 2023. It cites international court decisions that suggest a risk of violations of international law in Gaza, stating, "We believe that there is a plausible risk that Israel's military campaign in Gaza may have included grave violations of international humanitarian law, which has given rise to accusations of genocide."

Furthermore, the committee draws attention to the urgent need for humanitarian aid in Gaza, noting that while 500 aid trucks are required daily, the current average is only 25. The report also brings to light disturbing claims of drones targeting civilians in the aftermath of Israeli airstrikes.

The situation in the West Bank and East Jerusalem is also addressed, with the report stating that between October 7, 2023, and October 31, 2024, Israel demolished 1,800 Palestinian structures and killed 736 Palestinians. It also details the displacement of 1,722 Palestinians due to land seizures during the same period.

The committee urges the UK government to "ensure that Israel is held accountable for any ongoing breaches of international humanitarian law," reinforcing the need for accountability and adherence to international standards.
