Wolverhampton: British Prime Minister Andy Burnham reaffirmed on Tuesday that the UK will maintain its unwavering support for Ukraine, undeterred by Russia's warnings of 'consequences' after the use of British-made drones in recent Ukrainian strikes inside Russia. Burnham made these statements during a visit to Wolverhampton, emphasizing the UK's commitment to assisting Ukraine in its defense efforts, a position that has been consistently upheld by successive British administrations.
According to Anadolu Agency, Burnham stated, "This is the UK doing what it has long said it would do, which is to support Ukraine 100% against this illegal war led by (Russian President) Vladimir Putin." He further stressed that the UK's support is steadfast and not dependent on changing circumstances, saying, "We are not fair-weather friends. We will be there in Ukraine's hour of need, and that won't change."
His comments were in response to allegations from Russia's Embassy in the UK, which on Monday accused Britain of intentionally escalating the Ukraine crisis. The embassy warned that deeper involvement in the conflict and increased support for Kyiv's military efforts would result in a higher cost for the UK.
In support of Burnham's stance, a UK Defense Ministry spokesperson remarked, "Russia should be in no doubt about the resolve of this government to stand against Russian aggression, in Ukraine and against the UK and our allies."
