London:The United Kingdom has issued a warning to Israel, indicating it may expel 27 diplomats from the Israeli embassy in London. This action is contingent upon Israel reversing its decision to close the British Consulate General in East Jerusalem.
According to Anadolu Agency, The message was conveyed to Israeli officials by Simon Walters, the British Ambassador to Israel, highlighting increasing tensions between the two nations. These developments are part of a series of recent diplomatic strains.
Previously, the UK had announced a trade ban on goods from Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, citing concerns over "ethnic cleansing of Palestinians." This decision came after Israel unveiled plans to construct 1,200 new homes in the occupied territory, a move that has been met with international disapproval, as such settlements are deemed illegal under international law.
In response to the UK's trade ban, Israel decided to close the British Consulate in East Jerusalem, which functions as a liaison with Palestinians, further escalating diplomatic tensions.
