Kyiv: Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal announced on Wednesday that he had a strategic discussion with UK Defense Secretary John Healey in preparation for the upcoming Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG) meeting scheduled for September. The talks focused on aligning their primary positions for the meeting and exploring opportunities for joint production and bilateral projects in the defense sector.

According to Anadolu Agency, Shmyhal shared on the US social media platform X that Ukraine is looking forward to Britain playing a significant role in the newly established Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), a US and NATO initiative. "I am grateful to our British partners for their strong support," Shmyhal expressed, highlighting the importance of UK involvement.

The UDCG, also referred to as the Ramstein format, involves over 50 nations working together to provide military assistance to Ukraine. This initiative was launched in 2022 by the US as a means to organize international military aid for Ukraine amidst its ongoing conflict with Russia.

In recent developments, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden have pledged a $500 million military aid package to Ukraine as part of the PURL initiative. This package, which includes equipment and munitions sourced from the US, represents the second installment of funding under the PURL mechanism.
