Kyiv: Ukrainian Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko has reported substantial progress in the ongoing negotiations between Kyiv and Washington regarding a proposed minerals deal. The talks aim to formalize an agreement that would potentially benefit both nations economically.

According to Anadolu Agency, Svyrydenko highlighted that technical teams from both sides have been diligently collaborating to refine the agreement. She noted that legal teams have made several adjustments to the draft, marking a positive development in the negotiations. The progress has been documented in a memorandum of intent, reflecting the commitment of both parties.

Svyrydenko expressed optimism about completing the formalization of the agreement soon. She emphasized that while significant progress has been made, further work on specific points is necessary to ensure the overall quality of the agreement. The anticipated deal will require ratification by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, setting the stage for investment opportunities and economic growth for both Ukraine and the United States.

Initial plans to sign the agreement at the White House in late February were derailed due to a dispute between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. On April 7, Svyrydenko announced plans to send a high-level delegation to Washington to further the discussions. The agreement, once finalized, would grant the US access to Ukraine's rare earth minerals, creating a foundation for mutual economic benefits.
