Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine and the US will collaborate to transform the points agreed upon during recent discussions in Geneva into a concrete framework. This framework aims to achieve peace and secure long-term security guarantees for Ukraine.
According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy stated that Ukrainian and American delegations will soon meet to 'translate the points we secured in Geneva into a form that puts us on the path to peace and security guarantees.' He emphasized that the Ukrainian delegation would be prepared and focused on substantive work. Zelenskyy also highlighted that Kyiv maintains constant communication with the US and its European partners while briefing allies in other regions. He underscored Ukraine's efforts to maintain robust defense capabilities.
The Geneva meeting between US and Ukrainian officials on Sunday revolved around a draft 28-point proposal for a peace framework concerning the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The talks aimed at refining the proposal, which includes conditions for a ceasefire and a potential settlement of the conflict.
Additionally, Zelenskyy met with Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braze, awarding her the Order of Merit, Second Class, for her unwavering support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. He commended Latvia's involvement in reconstruction efforts and its leadership in the Drone Coalition. This group, co-led by the UK and Latvia, consistently supplies drones and other unmanned aerial vehicle capabilities to Ukraine. Zelenskyy noted that around 12,000 drones have been provided this year, which he deemed vital for Ukraine's defense.
The discussions also covered the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative, a NATO-led effort to supply Ukraine rapidly with US-manufactured weapons and equipment through coordinated financial contributions from NATO and partner countries. Moreover, they discussed the Security Action for Europe (SAFE) mechanism, an EU funding instrument facilitating Ukraine's participation in joint European defense procurement and production, as well as maintaining sanctions pressure on Russia.
In another statement, Zelenskyy mentioned his conversation with Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof. They discussed the diplomatic track following adviser-level talks in Geneva and the latest meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, a coalition of 34 countries led by Britain and France that have pledged increased support for Ukraine against Russian aggression. Zelenskyy expressed Kyiv's expectation for 'constructive cooperation with all partners' to sustain momentum toward peace.
