Kyiv: Russian President Vladimir Putin has lost his chance 'to get out of his failed war' by refusing the offer for direct peace talks from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine's foreign minister stated.

According to Anadolu Agency, Andrii Sybiha expressed on US social media platform X that 'things will only get worse for Russia,' emphasizing that battlefield losses will continue to mount and that 'failures will get more humiliating' for Moscow. He pointed out that Russia's economy is expected to plunge further into recession, leading to more job losses, increased taxes, and inflation impacting the most vulnerable.

Sybiha further warned that there are no safe havens in Russia exempt from Ukraine's long-range sanctions, and their intensity will only increase. He asserted that international pressure on Russia will not diminish but rather intensify, stressing that Moscow will eventually have to accept a diplomatic solution, albeit on less favorable terms.

In an open letter on Thursday, Zelenskyy called for direct negotiations with Putin, offering to observe a ceasefire during talks. However, Putin dismissed the proposal on Friday, stating that he sees 'no sense' in meeting Zelenskyy, citing past meetings that failed to yield significant outcomes.

In response, Zelenskyy accused Putin of not being committed to ending the ongoing conflict, expressing that many around the globe were disappointed by Putin's rejection of his open letter.
