Kyiv: Ukraine on Monday expressed gratitude towards US President Donald Trump after he declared a reduction in the 50-day deadline he initially set for Russia to negotiate a ceasefire agreement with Kyiv.

According to Anadolu Agency, Andriy Yermak, the head of Ukraine's Presidential Office, conveyed appreciation through a message on X. Yermak stated, "Thanks to President @POTUS for standing firm and delivering a clear message of peace through strength." He emphasized that Russian President Vladimir Putin responds only to displays of power, noting that America's firm stance sends a strong message that influences others' actions.

Earlier in the day, Trump, speaking to reporters before meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Scotland, expressed his dissatisfaction with Putin. He criticized the Russian leader for his aggressive actions, such as launching rockets into Kyiv, resulting in casualties, including those in vulnerable areas like nursing homes. Trump stated his intention to shorten the 50-day ceasefire deadline he previously set, suggesting he anticipates the outcome of the current situation.

On July 14, Trump had warned of imposing 100% secondary tariffs on Russia if an agreement to end the war in Ukraine was not achieved within the original 50-day timeframe.
