Ukraine Halts Strikes on Russian Refineries Under US Influence

Kyiv:Ukraine has informally paused its attacks on Russian oil refineries following pressure from US President Donald Trump and growing uncertainty over the United States' ongoing support for Kyiv.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, the suspension reportedly began early last week and is expected to last until after the US midterm elections, with the possibility of extending further into November. Despite this halt, Ukraine has not made any official announcement regarding the cessation of these attacks.

Two military officials knowledgeable about the situation stated that Ukrainian units responsible for long-range strikes were informed in mid-October to halt attacks on Russian refineries once their current operations were concluded. Additionally, Defense Minister Evgeniy Khmara advised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to consider suspending the refinery strikes due to the sensitive diplomatic context. President Zelenskyy concurred with this advice but made it clear that the military retained the autonomy to resume attacks if deemed necessary.
