Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday imposed new sanctions against Russian military personnel and civilian merchant vessels.
According to Anadolu Agency, the presidential press service announced that the first package of sanctions targets 127 Russian individuals involved in missile strikes on Ukraine, focusing on critical infrastructure and civilian facilities. This includes commanders of long-range aviation units and missile and artillery units of the ground forces.
The second package of sanctions affects 29 civilian merchant ships implicated in the transportation of cargo for the military needs of the Russian Federation. Most of these vessels are already under sanctions by the US, the EU, and the UK. Ukrainian presidential adviser and commissioner for sanctions policy, Vladyslav Vlasyuk, emphasized the impact of these measures, noting, "One of today's packages highlights the arms supply channels for the Russian army, let's see which ports will now accept these ships."
Vlasyuk further explained that the sanctions are aimed at those responsible for missile attacks on Ukrainian cities, increasing the cost of aggression for Russia, complicating its military operations, and ensuring accountability for strikes on civilians and infrastructure. As of now, Russia has not issued a response to Ukraine's new sanctions packages.
