Ukraine Reports Fatalities and Injuries from Explosive Devices in Lviv

Lviv: Ukraine announced on Sunday that at least one person was killed and 25 others were injured following the detonation of explosive devices in Lviv, a city in the country's western region.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Ukrainian National Police reported that a break-in at a store in Lviv was reported to their hotline around 12:30 am local time, leading to an explosion when a patrol crew arrived at the scene.

The statement from the police revealed that the explosions were caused by improvised explosive devices. Tragically, a 23-year-old policewoman lost her life due to the explosions. Initially, 24 people were reported injured, but that number later increased to 25 following subsequent developments.

Further details from the police indicated that an investigative team, along with explosives technicians and specialized services, were dispatched to the scene to manage the situation and provide necessary medical assistance to the injured. The incident has been classified as a 'terrorist attack', prompting the initiation of criminal proceedings under Ukraine's Criminal Code. A pre-trial investigation is currently being conducted by the regional anti-terrorism service.

Lviv Governor Maksym Kozytskyi communicated separately on Telegram that those responsible for the attack could face up to 12 years in prison and confiscation of property. He also classified the event as a "terrorist attack" and noted that several of the injured individuals are in serious condition.

In a later update, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated via the social media platform X that Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko informed him of the detention of a suspect believed to be involved in the incident. As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and officials have not disclosed the suspect's identity.
