Ankara: Ukraine reported on Friday that at least one person was killed and 20 others were injured due to overnight Russian airstrikes, which also caused damage to local infrastructure in its capital, Kyiv. 'As of now, more than 20 people across the country have been reported injured - all are receiving the necessary assistance. Sadly, a child was killed in Zaporizhzhia as a result of the attack,' Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said through the US social media company X regarding the attack.

According to Anadolu Agency, recovery efforts are ongoing at many critical infrastructure sites following the attack, which targeted the country's energy sector. Zelenskyy described the strikes as a 'cynical and calculated' attack. Repair crews are working to restore power and water supply in Kyiv, while power outages have been reported in multiple regions, including Donetsk, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Odesa, and Dnipropetrovsk.

Zelenskyy stated that the civilian and energy infrastructure is the main target of Russia's strikes ahead of the heating season. He urged for 'decisive action' from Ukraine's partners, including the US, in delivering air defense systems to Ukraine and enforcing further sanctions on Moscow. He called for a response to this brutality from the G20 and other international bodies advocating peace.

In Kyiv, Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported on Telegram that 12 people were injured in the Ukrainian capital, with eight requiring hospitalization. Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, noted that more than 5,800 residential buildings are without electricity. Ukraine's Air Force claimed its air defenses shot down 405 out of 465 drones and 15 out of 32 various types of missiles launched by Russia overnight. Russian authorities have not immediately commented on the attack.
