Kyiv: Ukraine's senior negotiator, Rustem Umerov, announced on Monday that recent discussions with the United States have yielded significant progress towards a potential peace agreement. The negotiations, characterized as 'constructive and productive,' were held with US representatives led by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

According to Anadolu Agency, Umerov conveyed the optimism surrounding the talks through a statement on Telegram, highlighting the achievements made over the two-day negotiations. He expressed hope for reaching an agreement that could lead to peace by the end of the day. Umerov cautioned against unverified reports and urged the public to disregard rumors and speculative media coverage.

Umerov praised the American delegation, emphasizing their constructive efforts in assisting Ukraine to achieve a sustainable peace agreement. He particularly acknowledged President Trump and his team's dedication to the cause. Witkoff, serving as the US Middle East special envoy, and Kushner, a former senior adviser to President Donald Trump, played key roles in the discussions despite Kushner currently holding no formal government position.

These negotiations follow a period marked by intensified diplomatic activity and ongoing conflict. Kyiv remains firm that any peace settlement must incorporate strict security guarantees without territorial concessions. Meanwhile, Moscow has expressed openness to negotiations but has pointed out the lack of concrete proposals from Washington, DC.
