Kyiv: Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said Tuesday he had his first call with Johann Wadephul, congratulating him on his nomination as Germany's federal foreign minister and discussing future cooperation to bolster support for Ukraine.
According to Anadolu Agency, Sybiha praised Chancellor-designate Friedrich Merz's address on X the previous day, describing it as a demonstration of 'true leadership.' He also informed Wadephul about the current state of the battlefield and Ukraine's ongoing peace efforts, emphasizing the importance of Germany's principled stance.
Sybiha expressed his appreciation for Wadephul's consistent personal stance in favor of their shared principles. He acknowledged Wadephul's reaffirmation that the next German government will maintain and strengthen its support for Ukraine.
Additionally, Sybiha extended an invitation to Wadephul to join EU foreign ministers on their scheduled visit to Ukraine on May 9, following his formal appointment.
