Kyiv: Ukraine said Wednesday it welcomed US President Donald Trump's plan to halt the nearly two-year war in the Gaza Strip, describing the proposal as a key move toward a just and lasting settlement.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stated that Kyiv considers the plan an important contribution to the search for a just and lasting settlement and emphasized that any agreement must adhere to international law and respect the legitimate rights and aspirations of both Israeli and Palestinian people.
The ministry called for all parties involved to push for 'the earliest practical implementation of the plan' to end the ongoing conflict in the enclave, address the humanitarian crisis, and protect lives.
The statement expressed confidence that implementing the plan would restore security to the entire region, in accordance with international law and the UN Charter. It also highlighted the US's 'leadership role' in efforts to stabilize the Middle East and uphold global peace.
On Monday, Trump presented the 20-point Gaza ceasefire proposal at a joint news conference in Washington, DC with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The plan includes the release of all Israeli hostages in return for Palestinian prisoners, the disarmament of Hamas, a phased Israeli military withdrawal, and the establishment of a technocratic, nonpolitical Palestinian committee to govern Gaza.
