Kyiv: Ukraine's top diplomat expressed approval on Thursday for US President Donald Trump's recent statements advocating increased pressure on Russia to end the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha conveyed this sentiment during a panel discussion at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

According to Anadolu Agency, Sybiha emphasized the importance of the US leadership in compelling Moscow to engage in negotiations. He highlighted the necessity for the US to enhance its involvement in diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the war. Sybiha stressed the need to implement a robust sanctions policy to heighten the cost of Russia's actions and diminish its influence.

Sybiha also pointed out the importance of fortifying Ukraine's position by enhancing military and defense capabilities. He stated that this deterrence package is essential to stabilize the situation on the battlefield. The foreign minister assured that Ukraine is committed to meeting its responsibilities in this regard.

The comments followed President Trump's statement on Truth Social, where he urged Russia to "settle now" to conclude the nearly three-year-long conflict. Trump warned of severe "taxes, tariffs, and sanctions" should a resolution not be reached.

In response to Trump's remarks, the Kremlin indicated that Russia is attentively observing the rhetoric from Washington and is open to a respectful dialogue between Trump and President Vladimir Putin, reminiscent of their interactions during Trump's first term.
