Ankara: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on Sunday that a Ukrainian attack on an Iranian commercial vessel, resulting in the death of a sailor, "cannot go unanswered."

According to Anadolu Agency, Araghchi accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of attacking the vessel, labeling it a "blatant UN Charter violation" and suggesting that it was carried out "at Israel's behest to drag Europe into its war." He communicated Iran's stance through phone discussions with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

The Iranian government took diplomatic action on Saturday by summoning Ukraine's charge d'affaires in Tehran. Iran claims the attack occurred in the Caspian Sea, resulting in one sailor's death and another's injury. This incident has further escalated tensions between the two nations.

On the same day, President Zelenskyy announced on the social media platform X that Ukraine had achieved "very strong results" with long-range strikes in the Caspian Sea. These strikes reportedly targeted "vessels used in military cargo shipments involving Iran, as well as a warship," signaling a significant military development in the region.
