Kherson: A Ukrainian drone strike on a market area in the Russian-controlled part of Ukraine's Kherson region resulted in the deaths of at least seven people and injured more than 20 others, as reported by the Moscow-installed governor.

According to Anadolu Agency, Vladimir Saldo, the region's Russian-backed governor, communicated on Telegram that the attack was directed at the city of Oleshky around 9:30 am local time (0630GMT). He accused Ukrainian forces of executing the strike in a crowded market district.

Oleshky is situated on the left bank of the Dnieper River, close to the city of Kherson, which is under Ukrainian control on the opposite side of the river. "According to preliminary information, at least seven people were killed and more than 20 were injured," Saldo stated, later alleging that a second wave of attacks occurred on the city, though he provided no details on casualties or damage.

Meanwhile, Russia's Foreign Ministry released a statement labeling the incident as a 'terrorist' act, accusing Ukraine of intensifying the conflict and undermining diplomatic efforts. The ministry further contended that the responsibility for the attack extends to Kyiv's Western allies. "The strike is on the conscience of Kyiv's Western partners," it stated, emphasizing that Russia would 'never allow' Ukraine to reestablish its 1991 borders.

The statement urged the international community and relevant multilateral organizations to strongly denounce the attack. Ukrainian authorities have not responded to the accusations, and independent verification of the incident remains challenging due to the ongoing conflict, now in its fourth year.
