Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced discussions with the United States regarding potential formats for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The discussions were aimed at ending Russia's ongoing war. Zelenskyy highlighted that Ukraine's chief negotiator, Rustem Umerov, briefed him on meetings with US presidential representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy emphasized the US's continued engagement in diplomacy, particularly in mediating a prisoner exchange. He noted that contacts with the US are ongoing at the appropriate level to configure the exchange. Umerov also reported on interactions with countries interested in drone deals with Ukraine, involving nearly 20 countries at various stages, with four agreements already signed.
Zelenskyy mentioned that Ukraine has achieved initial results through these agreements, including fuel supplies to the domestic market, and anticipates significant financial outcomes. He further stated that new security cooperation would soon launch within the framework of Drone Deals with another part of the world.
Witkoff, Kushner, and Umerov held talks in Miami last week, discussing the need to intensify the diplomatic process and coordinate further steps toward achieving peace. This meeting occurred amid a slowdown in negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow, as international attention has shifted due to the US-Israeli war against Iran.
Following the meeting, US President Donald Trump announced a 3-day ceasefire agreement and a prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed readiness to meet Zelenskyy in a third country to finalize a peace agreement.
