Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that "new ideas" concerning the timing and formats for ending the war with Russia were discussed in an hour-long meeting with US envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, son-in-law of former President Donald Trump. Zelenskyy revealed this development during an evening address, highlighting ongoing diplomatic efforts between Kyiv and Washington.

According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy mentioned that documents related to the peace process are either prepared or nearing completion. The Ukrainian president emphasized the urgency of bringing the war to an end, noting that Ukraine's senior negotiator, Rustem Umerov, will continue to engage in detailed discussions with the American team.

Zelenskyy stated, "We are truly working 24/7 to bring closer the end of this brutal Russian war against Ukraine and to ensure that all documents and steps are realistic, effective, and reliable." He underlined that while challenges persist around "sensitive issues," both parties have a shared understanding of implementing the discussed measures.

The president also engaged in talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store to align European support, expressing his intent to brief other continental leaders to ensure cohesive progress toward a common goal. Zelenskyy extended gratitude for the "kind words and Christmas greetings" shared during the meeting with the US delegation.

Zelenskyy was accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Ukraine's senior negotiator Rustem Umerov, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, and Chief of the General Staff Andrii Hnatov. The conversation focused on a 28-point plan initially proposed by Trump to resolve the Ukraine conflict, with efforts ongoing to refine the proposal to accommodate all stakeholders.

He further noted that the coming weeks are anticipated to be intense as diplomatic pressure mounts on Russia to exhibit that extending the conflict will result in "severe consequences."
