HAMILTON: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres extended his condolences to Trkiye following a terrorist attack Wednesday that targeted the headquarters of Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) in the capital Ankara. "We await information but condemn this attack on civilians. We send our condolences to the families of the victims and hope for the full recovery of those injured," UN deputy spokesman Farhan Haq told Anadolu on behalf of Guterres. Later, speaking at a news conference, Haq read out a statement from Guterres condemning the terrorist attack. Expressing his "deepest condolences, Guterres also conveyed the UN's "solidarity with the people and government of the Republic of Trkiye," he said. Five people died and 22 others were wounded in the "heinous attack," according to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said two terrorists were "neutralized" and called on people seeking the latest developments to rely on statements from official sources. Security forces, firef ighters and paramedics were dispatched to the area. The defense firm's personnel were directed to shelters for security reasons.
