Vienna: The head of the UN nuclear watchdog announced a proposal for a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to address concerns regarding Iran's nuclear program. Rafael Grossi, director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), expressed on X his intention to engage directly with Araghchi, emphasizing that such a dialogue could pave the way for a diplomatic resolution to the ongoing nuclear dispute.

According to Anadolu Agency, Grossi has communicated his suggestion in writing, highlighting the importance of resuming cooperation with the IAEA. He noted that this cooperation is crucial for reaching a successful agreement. Grossi also welcomed recent ceasefire announcements, which he sees as a positive step towards easing the regional tensions.

A ceasefire between Israel and Iran took effect early Tuesday at 0400GMT after a period of intense conflict. Despite the truce, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz ordered further military action against Tehran, accusing Iran of breaching the ceasefire agreement. Iran, in response, denied these allegations and promised a determined reaction to any future attacks.

The ceasefire was initially brokered by US President Donald Trump, outlining a phased cessation of hostilities. Iran was to begin adhering to the ceasefire first, with Israel expected to follow suit 12 hours later. The truce was set to culminate in a complete cessation of hostilities after 24 hours.

Tensions had escalated dramatically on Monday when Iran launched a series of missile strikes targeting the US military's Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. This attack followed US military actions on Sunday, targeting three Iranian nuclear sites as part of a US-supported Israeli military campaign against Iran that began on June 13. Iran retaliated with attacks on Israeli targets, further complicating the situation.
