Marjayoun: The UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported early Monday that one of its peacekeepers was killed and another critically injured following a projectile explosion on Sunday night at one of its positions in southern Lebanon. The incident took place near Adshit al-Qusayr in the Marjayoun district. According to Anadolu Agency, Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA) indicated that Israeli artillery shelling targeted the headquarters of the Indonesian contingent serving with the UN force in Adshit al-Qusayr. UNIFIL has stated that the origin of the projectile is unknown and an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the explosion. The UN peacekeeping mission emphasized that deliberate attacks on peacekeepers are considered grave violations of international humanitarian law and of Security Council Resolution 1701. Such acts could potentially be classified as war crimes.
