Naqoura: The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported that its convoy, comprising military and civilian peacekeepers along with contractors, was stopped by the Israeli army on its journey from Beirut to the Naqoura headquarters on Tuesday afternoon, just a few kilometers from its destination.
According to Anadolu Agency, the UN-marked vehicles were eventually allowed to continue, but the local contractors were sent back to Beirut under security arrangements, despite previous coordination that included their presence. UNIFIL stated on Wednesday that this incident is not isolated, highlighting that similar restrictions, such as physical roadblocks or the reversal of prior clearances, have previously impacted peacekeepers and the essential personnel supporting them.
UNIFIL expressed concerns over the timely delivery of critical supplies like food, fuel, and water to its positions, particularly along the Blue Line. Although these challenges have been managed so far, ongoing movement restrictions pose a risk to operations, including the peacekeepers' ability to report on violations of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
The UN peacekeepers reiterated their call to the Israeli army to respect agreed arrangements, ensure the security and safety of peacekeepers, and guarantee the freedom of movement for all patrols and logistical convoys.
