According to Anadolu Agency, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric expressed appreciation for the unilateral ceasefire announced by Ukraine, which is set to begin on the night of May 5-6, as well as the ceasefire announced by the Russian Federation for May 8-9. Dujarric stated that the Secretary-General looks forward to the successful implementation of these ceasefires and reiterated his call for a complete, immediate, unconditional, and lasting ceasefire. He emphasized that such measures are essential for achieving a just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace, in accordance with the UN Charter, international law, and relevant UN resolutions.

On Monday, the Russian Defense Ministry declared a ceasefire for May 8-9 to commemorate the Soviet people's victory in the Great Patriotic War. In a statement on Telegram, the ministry assured that Moscow would take all necessary measures to ensure security during the celebrations, warning of a potential massive retaliatory missile strike if the celebration is disrupted.

Following Russia's announcement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared a ceasefire with Russia starting at midnight in Kyiv. Zelenskyy emphasized that human life is far more valuable than any anniversary celebration. He also noted that no official request had been made to Ukraine regarding the cessation of hostilities announced by Moscow during Russia's Victory Day celebrations.
