UNICEF Alarmed by Reported Child Abductions in Northern Mozambique

Maputo: UNICEF has raised alarms over recent reports of child abductions in Cabo Delgado province in northern Mozambique. The UN agency has called for the immediate release of all abducted children to ensure their safe return to families and communities.

According to Anadolu Agency, the statement was made on US social media company X, where UNICEF highlighted that child abductions by non-state armed groups constitute grave violations of children's rights and international law. UNICEF is actively collaborating with the Mozambican government and various partners to prevent further abductions, support affected families, and bolster protection services. The agency has emphasized the need for all parties involved to prioritize the safety and rights of children.

In addition to the child abductions, Mozambique is currently facing severe flooding, impacting over 720,000 people and causing significant destruction across the country. The floods have damaged critical infrastructure, including roads, schools, and health facilities, and have resulted in 22 reported deaths.
