Geneva: Sheldon Yett, UNICEF's representative for Sudan, issued a stark warning about the severe humanitarian crisis unfolding in Sudan, where children are increasingly succumbing to hunger, disease, and violence. Yett described the situation as a "looming catastrophe" during a UN briefing, emphasizing the urgent need for intervention to prevent irreversible damage to an entire generation of children.

According to Anadolu Agency, Yett highlighted the rapidly deteriorating conditions, noting that children are suffering from malnutrition, with many reduced to "skin and bones." He reported that their access to essential services like safe water, food, healthcare, and education is severely limited. Yett stressed the importance of global action, calling for resources and sustained access to affected areas, which are currently inaccessible due to ongoing conflict.

Yett further urged for sustained diplomatic efforts to achieve peace in the region, while emphasizing the necessity of supporting children during the ongoing conflict. He appealed to the international community to remain vigilant and proactive in addressing the crisis, warning against turning a blind eye to the suffering of Sudan's children.

The current crisis in Sudan began with intense fighting between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in April 2023, leading to the deaths of thousands and the displacement of millions, as reported by the UN and local authorities.
